Internet via cable

Internet can be accessed via the cable company if you have Norwegian cable TV. This is a broadband service with a range of connection speeds.
Almost all of the cable TV and internet to houses in Stavanger is provided by GET. They have packages S, M, L, XL and Xtreme with internet speeds ranging from 1.25 Mbps to 26 Mbps.
To have cable internet with GET, you have to subscribe to a minimum of the basic TV package in addition. ie: you have to pay for TV and internet. The cable modem is generally provided for free, if you sign up for a minimum of a 12 month contract. You only need your date of birth to sign up, not a Person Number. There is usually an option for less than 12 months, but a fee is required.
Some apartment complexes have cable provided by Hesbynett. They charge separately for the cable modem. They have packages named after Norwegian Mythology (!!) Eg: Tor = 3.0 Mbps or Valhall = 6 Mbps. They also have extra charges in the small print for cancellation etc.
