Internet via fiber optic cable

Internet (and TV and telephone) can be accessed via a fiber optic cable if the system has been laid in your yard or apartment complex. The service is known sometimes as FiOS (Fiber Optic Service.) It can provide all your local cable TV channels, your broadband internet and your telephone service. The following will affect how long it will take to get connected:
- There has to be fiber optic cable nearby.
- It then has to be connected to your house.
- It then has to be connected to a fiber optic modem.
All of these requirements are in the hands of the fiber optic cable company who may have a significant backlog of work. It has been known to wait up to six months for connection.
The fiber cable comes in to a fiber optic modem, which is a junction box permanently fixed to the wall inside the house, with its own power supply. It has a series of ethernet connections which can then be wired to points around the house. A decoder "box" is required at the TV. Each TV requires its own decoder, with a maximum of 4.
Fiber optic services in Stavanger are provided by Lyse (who also provide your electricity).
