Mobile phones

There are several options for mobile phones for expatriates. You cannot currently get an mobile phone account in Norway without a 3 year work history in Norway:
- Pay-as-you-go mobile phones. You can buy a new SIM card with a Norwegian telephone number and put it in your existing phone. Check your phone works here first!
- Buy pre-paid top-up credit from supermarkets/gas stations/newsagents and phone kiosks, or slightly more cheaply, online.
- The two main mobile companies for this are Telenor and NetCom. Go to an electrical shop or a phone kiosk in the shopping mall to get your new SIM card. It is called a kontantkort account.
- Monthly subscription account with the main providers. Usually not available if you do not have a 3 year work history in Norway!
- Coming soon ... a quarterly subscription account with MTU. Account will be able to be set up using proof of employment from your employer.
